DEAR NIGERIA

Dear fellow young people,
Dear ‘leaders of tomorrow’,

‘Tomorrow’ has come...

And just as “you don’t need a cape to be a superhero” so too, you don't need to be a ruler to be a leader.

To those who care, I write to remind you that Nigeria is not an abstract entity but consists of people, of human beings. And that she belongs to us and not just to those in seats of authority and that what we do (or don't do) can greatly affect the future of Nigeria the future of hundreds of billions of lives.

I don't know if in my lifetime I will ever witness an up-to-standard system of education running in Nigeria or if funds will finally develop the habit of getting to their destinations;
I don't know if the security issues will finally be dealt with or if constant electric power supply will cease to look like a fairy tale...
(Yeah the list is endless but I'm sure you get the gist).

What I do know is that if those who care make a stand;
If we decide to harness our talents and strive to bring out our best in our various fields and not give in to the “just-enough-to-get-by syndrome”;
If we decide to strive to stand by the values of honesty, integrity and justice ‘down to the last whisker’ even if swimming against the current of River Congo may look easier;
If we decide to pass on these values wherever possible to our families, friends and acquaintances;
If we decide to be a little bit more selfless and think a little bit more of the common good,
then the ten or fifty or one hundred or ten thousand people who will definitely be affected by our actions, directly or indirectly, would have better lives to look up to, then Nigeria, our Nigeria would be a better place, even if by a fraction.
... “it is the little little drops of water that make up the large ocean”.

Yes I know that it is very difficult to get practically “anything” done as it should in Nigeria but I also know that it isn't impossible, and that
“inter medium montium petransibunt aquae”
“the waters will pass through the mountain”.
It will even if it has to go under it or around it or cut its way through it...

So help us God.
And may God bless Nigeria.

Your fellow Nigerian,
Obinna Oliseneku.
